Cyber Chronicles: Highlights from ‘Digital Citizenship Week’
“Technology opens the door to the world. It’s up to us to walk through it in a meaningful and respectful way.”
One key focus during this academic year has been digital citizenship, a crucial aspect of today's online world. As part of Digital Citizenship Week, the school launched various activities to encourage responsible use of technology. The Digital Cyber Vision Video Contest engaged students in creating videos discussing the 9 elements of digital citizenship, emphasizing the importance of online safety, etiquette, and responsibility. There were also individual sessions conducted by Digital Leaders for primary classes, about the foundations of digital citizenship in an age-appropriate manner. Various school clubs have integrated discussions on digital citizenship, promoting critical thinking about technology's impact.
Moreover, the Parent Ambassadors participated in a special session on ‘Parental Guardianship’ hosted by the BYOD Ambassadors of Grade 11, highlighting parents' vital role in guiding their children's online behavior.
BYOD has transformed classroom activities by allowing teachers to use digital tools like real-time quizzes, virtual simulations, and platforms such as Edubrisk. These tools enable students to engage actively, collaborate on projects, and receive instant feedback, reinforcing key concepts and fostering essential 21st-century skills like teamwork and collaboration.
Integrating digital citizenship into all aspects of school life, combined with the flexibility of BYOD, ensures that students learn academics and how to be responsible digital citizens!
How did you celebrate Digital Citizenship Week and which activities impacted your understanding and practice of digital citizenship?
